| Home Inspectors to be Licensed in BC |

{January 30, 2009 } VICTORIA, BC – Home Inspectors will require licences to operate in British Columbia as of March 31, 2009. The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) will be responsible for licensing and administering the regulations. In response to requests from the industry and consumers over the last several years, the recently introduced Home Inspector Licensing Regulation requires the licensing of all those individuals who assess the condition of a residential dwelling or property to have a licence to practice in British Columbia. Home Inspectors that meet the requirements of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (BC), Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia or the National Certification Program for Home and Property Inspectors will qualify for a licence. Others not holding one of the stated credentials may still be eligible for a licence but will be required to have their experience, knowledge and ability assessed by the BPCPA Director. The role of the BPCPA, an independent organization responsible for business practices and consumer protection in BC, will be to: assess the qualifications of and to issue licenses to home inspectors; receive and respond to complaints from consumers; monitor compliance through inspections and enforcement. Licensing information and application forms will be released and posted to www.bpcpa.ca on February 27, 2009 Before March 31, 2009, Home Inspectors should ensure the following have been submitted: The Business Practices & Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is a not-for-profit organization which operates at arm's length from government. On July 4, 2004, the Authority assumed responsibility for the oversight of business practices and consumer protection in British Columbia. -30-
